Maps... just musing

There's a little map at the bottom of the right-hand sidebar of this blog which shows where my readers are located. It gives me a quaint thrill to see how scattered they are all over the world. Indeed, there have been occasions when I have noticed that five or six people are reading simultaneously, and one is in Canada, another in New Zealand, a third in Italy and a fourth right next door in Asansol, West Bengal, India! A minute ago I noticed three little dots in three corners of Africa, and wondered who might be the folks who could be reading me from all those faraway places. I also reflected that it would be nice if some dots sprang up over Russia and the south American continent: those two being the only parts of the world from where nobody has visited this blog yet...

I tried to put this map on my blog too but I could not. This is indeed quite nice. I think South Americans and East Europeans don't use English much and that is why may be visitors are so few. Here all my South American and East European colleagues take English lessons in our office. Even they write their emails in their mother language.

Good and fair things take considerable time to spread, but once they have come to the 'center stage' they remain there for a long, long duration, unless there are other mishaps cropping up...perhaps!

Suvro da, I remember sending you a comment months ago on how absorbed I was to see the glowing little black and red dots on your blog. The comment must have either gotten lost in he middle of other things - or else maybe I sounded a little too batty.
I keep wondering who's reading in Spain, Angola, and some other place in Norway I think were all lit up at the same time.
Come to think of it I can't remember or do I remember a dot in Brazil. No, I guess I'm making this bit up...but I'm quite sure I saw the dot right over Brazil one day....but no, never have I seen the bulb glowing anywhere close to Russia. I'm quite sure about this. "What? No, you did not. You did not see the bulb glowing in Siberia!" Gotta go and take care of someone (or is it a thing, I wonder) Suvro da - you take care.

But yes, it is indeed lovely to see the map. That's one of the first things I look at, right after looking through new and old posts.

Even I sometimes wonder about these people who visit my blog, and never leave a trace behind except those tiny dots on the map. There's a curious little spot somewhere to the west of Africa right in the watery wilderness of the Atlantic-- and I have a regular visitor from there (or some the map informs me). A little googling yielded that it was an US military base in a remote island-- whoa! To think that some US military-man reads my personal musings is both a little amusing and wonderful.

Pardon the careless typo. The line in brackets should be 'or so the map informs me'.

well I was in Spain, Paris and Italy for the last 6 months and I followed the blog pretty religiously. That doesn't discount the fact that there may be others reading it. Even I remember seeing a dot in Brazil. I am pretty sure about it.

I made a typo too - and now I can't find it. But there is a typo somewhere in my comment (there is a "he" instead of "the").
I also forgot to thank you Suvro da for putting up this rather dreamy post here. It was oddly comforting to find it and read it when I did.
I read through Manoshij's comment thrice, and I feel rather obtuse because I have absolutely no idea what he's talking about...

Now there are people reading who are in Vietnam and Romania. And there seem to be more dots in the middle-east than before...

...Algeria, Haifa, Sudan, Panama...and a dot for 'Asia/Pacific' region....
And that dot over Brazil had not been a figment of my imagination.

There's somebody in Iceland reading your blog...

Yes, I have noticed. But what most stirs my curiosity is who frequently visits this blog from Mountain View, California - because that could only mean that there's someone at the Google HQ who keeps following me!
